It was about five pm on a Saturday and while we were assured a rainless day, it hadn't stopped raining! Ray and me were seated there going over the tennis results, waiting around for the next job of the day to come in. Inevitably we had a call from a lady on a company expedition who had pulled into the Sainsburys petrol station in Kirkthorpe and put petrol in her diesel Kia lease car in error. The poor thing was very troubled it seemed, telling me "I simply can't believe I have wrecked the vehicle! I'm so accustomed to putting petrol in my petrol vehicle that I completely did not remember that I was operating a diesel!" I just instructed her to relax and not to worry, and also that such things sadly often happen. She managed to maneuver the vehicle into a safe position and, seeing that it was just a few minutes off from us, we were able to reach the customer quickly. The contaminated fuel was removed and she could return to the motel she was lodging in. Even though we got thoroughly soaked, it was all worth the time to see her drive off contented and not so apprehensive. Yet another misfuel correction in West Yorkshire well done in my books!

I had enjoyed a terrific evening fishing during the weekend and was feeling pleased with myself the following morning as I set out to help a new couple who were on vacation in Kirkthorpe. They'd stopped after putting diesel into their Skoda, and they were approximately an hour's drive away. I got there at their location and smiled to myself as I listened to the lady chastising her hubby for being so daft. "How could you possibly manage to put the wrong fuel in the vehicle?" she told him. I tried to explain that this situation occurs quite frequently in West Yorkshire and that it's actually absolutely nothing to worry about, even so he in spite of everything had an earful. Unfortunate chap. At any rate, I drained out all the contaminated fuel, gave the fuel system a flush and gave them some correct fuel. Watching them drive down the road I waved farewell and pondered on what her indoors would ask me if I did the exact same thing... I'd personally never hear the end of it!

What a good night's sleep! 7:00 am on a rainy Saturday and we were en route to help an older lovely lady who put petrol in her diesel Audi in Kirkthorpe. I had been informed she had left the filling station and broken down in a country lane along the way to visit her grandchildren. I got her location punched into the TomTom and got there inside an hour. I arrived at the location and extracted the wrong fuel out of the vehicle. As I was working she told me, "I have been getting somewhat forgetful in my senior years and forgot about the car working with diesel seeing that I had just purchased it a few days ago when my previous one, which I used for over twenty five years, eventually died". I got the job done and she gifted me a peppermint and said thanks a lot. What a pleasant West Yorkshire woman!

I am not ever excessively inclined to carrying out work Sundays, and a week ago was the same. I'd just come away from home after eating a fantastic dinner made for me by the wife, and I was off to sort out a gentleman after he had put the incorrect petrol in his MG. He was somewhere in Kirkthorpe hence it wasn't long before I arrived with him. Just as I pulled up at the car and got out he told me "Praise God! I foolishly had my thoughts on other things and didn't realise I've put the wrong fuel in my petrol vehicle. I need to know if I created any kind of problems through driving it?" I revealed generally there shouldn't be damage and also that I would get the contaminated fuel drained quickly. As expected I removed the wrong fuel from the car and put in the suitable fuel, and then another delighted customer could carry on with their trip without any subsequent fuss. The man could hardly stop saying thanks to me, and that is what tends to make earning a living on Sundays in West Yorkshire just a little bit easier to me!
